Abstract Art Review

Abstract Art ReviewThe Stich Philosophy is a part of the timeless beauty of the 1904 Stich Paper Gallery. Stich was founded by Joseph DiMaio, a German immigrant who created a new class of art, simply called 'Stich' which is not technically an art form but rather a medium of expression for the modern world. There is a very unique and exciting process involved in making this abstract art. One can only make one abstract piece at a time and there are no restrictions on the artists. However, it seems to be a lot easier to work in one medium as opposed to several different ones.Stich created art that allowed artists to express themselves freely without the restrictions of the mainstream, commercial media. Therefore, the amount of creativity is really dependent on the artist and their own originality. People have become familiar with many of the Stich Philosophy papers, because there is only one abstract masterpiece in existence for the entire world to see.To date, there are eight Stich Phil osophy patterns, with more than fifteen to be shown in the future. The Stich Philosophy patterns will change, change because no two artists are alike. These Stich Philosophy patterns have been shown all over the world, in various locations, and at many different times of year. The art piece itself is a much older form of art, not just any old abstract pieces you see now. It is all the first generation of abstract works created by these artists, the extremely talented artists who were influenced by Carl Jung and other scientists, and created these abstract pieces of art. That is why the papers create such an overwhelming feeling of pride, knowing that the pattern was created by a great artist. The Stich Philosophy, Stich Papers, is a part of the one of a kind art style that is now known as abstract art. There are a lot of benefits to be found in this art, including a feeling of freedom, which allow you to express yourself creatively, and one that is appreciated by all those who know th e story behind its creation. In addition, Stich Philosophy paper works are also very affordable compared to other traditional art forms.Although there are a lot of factors that play into the success of these Stich Philosophy patterns, there is one factor that goes into how each Stich philosophy pattern is perceived by an art viewer. This is the consistency and uniqueness of each artwork. Each piece of art created by an artist has a beginning, middle, and end.A lot of Stich Philosophy papers are very unique, as each art piece has an end. The uniqueness of each paper is what makes them stand out, from the older, more popular pieces to the newer more recent abstract art prints.

Phenomenological and Social Psychoanalytic free essay sample

That the simple word l is always in the top twenty most common words used in the English language is no coincidence-?we are central to our framework of the world, ND therefore our self Is of great Importance to everything we do and think. Whether self Is a set of attitudes, roles or characteristics and how much of those stem from our own individuality and how much from how we fit into society, is key to understanding the impact and influence that our self-images have on our lives. If you were asked to define your self. How would you do It?Would you say, l am a mother, I am a daughter, I am a doctor, using your roles in smaller and larger societies to define yourself? Or would you choose instead to define yourself by the individual characteristics that serve to set you apart from your group and the world en am funny, I am kind, I am shy? As central as the question of self may be, there is surprisingly little empirical research in social psychology on how we define ourselves. We will write a custom essay sample on Phenomenological and Social Psychoanalytic or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the main, this can be attributed to the inability to agree on whether self is a set of attitudes or if it is otherwise constructed.Kuhn and McFarland (McFarland, 1 954), however, did attempt to develop an experiment that would begin to clarify some of these questions. They asked 288 undergraduate students to answer who am I? Twenty different ways, in a short amount of time. As sociologists, they looked at their results from a deferent perspective than social psychologists, but It is still of Interest to see how the students responded In ways that held up the Idea of an Individual-society dichotomy.Invariably, their responses showcased either the role they filled (student, son, friend) or how they saw themselves as individuals (smart, gentle, tall) While our binary constructs can help to clarify and simplify a question, It can also serve to make formulating a real-world answer more difficult. Just as the self cannot be defined strictly in terms of its conscious formulations while discounting its unconscious, so too is it impossible to truly understand the self when using the foundation of the Individual-society dualism. This paper will examine how two social psychological perspectives-? phenomenological and social psychoanalytical-?have worked to define the self and how well they have managed to step away from the black and white dualism of Individual-society, that has been historically prevalent, and develop a more cohesive. Integrated model of the self. FIFO When looking at the history of how a topic has been understood, it is always important to remember that knowledge is not a static formulation.Rather, it is a dynamic product that is always at the mercy of the historical framework in which it finds itself. (Holloway, 2007) The understanding of any subject comes down to the time period, the culture, and the social location present for that subjects. Consider, for example, how the study of the self was far less popular in psychology in the United States in the mid-twentieth century than it is now, or indeed, as it was in other fields such as philosophy or sociology. It is necessary to remember th at during this time period, psychology in the U. S. As very much concerned with separating itself from the philosophical disciplines and becoming more aligned with the sciences-? the study of the self can be seen to underscore the nebulous nature of the field, which was against the goals of that time and palace. In Britain in 1694, society was in the midst of the ramifications of a society moving away from agriculture and towards industry-?creating the fear of social ties being broken and of kinship no longer being the sole consideration for what makes a errors-?when John Locke began to discuss personal identity in a way that saw it as a natural, observable phenomenon 4.This was a departure from when the basic understanding of self saw it both as a reflection of the immortal soul and of familial descent. What we take for granted-?that the self is not merely a collection of outer actions, but is also made up of a self-consciousness-?was then considered to be exceedingly modern and revolutionary. The idea of defining self based on f amilial descent is an interesting one, as it serves to underscore the importance of situated knowledge in this topic.Whereas in the Western world academics have moved increasingly towards the individualistic of the self, it is important to remember that in many third-world cultures defining the self is still very much a matter of defining the kinship ties a person has and their relatedness to the rest of the worlds. Does this mean that the self is a different entity depending on where you live? Is a person less of a separate being in Kenya than they are in Britain? This is at the root of why any definition that relies solely on a binary definition of self-?especially of individual-society dualism-will always be lacking. While this paper is primarily concerned with the issue of individual-society dualism, keeping in mind the other binary concepts that have had an impact on the definition of self-?integrated vs.. Fragmented, conscious vs.. Unconscious, true vs.. False-?can help to reinforce the idea that attempting to follow a strict dichotomy undermines the ability to achieve a realistic, usable definition of the self. The social psychoanalytic perspective and the self Social psychoanalysis is one of the best perspectives in merging dualistic thinking into a more cohesive whole. This is the perspective that best strives to see how the unconscious impacts the conscious and vice versa and how the fragmented forms emotional experiences. The best strength of social psychoanalysis is that it is able to delve into the hidden depths of meaning in a persons experiences and relationships. If the best way to combat the individual-society strict dualism is to understand the interplay between the two, then social psychoanalysis is well-placed to find that interaction. Psychoanalysis is able to look at an individuals setting and relationships and delve deeper into the emotional interplay that has such an impact on that persons function of self. This allo ws the focus to be on the dynamic experience of an individual who is always a sum total of their relationships and settings, and cannot be broken down to individual parts outside of those connections. Consider, for example, a sibling relationship. Siblings and placement in ones family is fundamental in how a person defines themselves by role-?I am an older brother, I am a protector, l am an only child-?and in the dynamics of how those relationships establish their own moral and cultural codes for that person, which is inherent in their unconscious motivations. Here then, is a clear interplay between the hidden and the visible in defining the self, which the social psychoanalytic perspective is best poised to understand. The phenomenological perspective and the self The strong ties between phenomenology and philosophy lend both the greatest strengths for phenomenological perspectives to explain a cohesive definition of self, but also the greatest weakness in forming a definition of self that is applicable in the practical world: Because phenomenology is considered to be fundamentally irrelevant in any scientific explanation of the mind, the person-level is regarded as scientifically invisible: it is a ghost-like housing for sub-personal computational cognition. The problem of explaining how the sub-personal and sub-phenomenological machinery of mind is related to person-level experience is as troublesome for cognitive psychology as the problem Descartes faced in explaining how the ghost (the non- corporeal mind) is related to the machine (the material body)8. On the surface, phenomenology stands out as being one of the best perspectives to take on when attempting to view the definition of self away from the harsh dichotomy of individual-society.As phenomenology looks at how a person experiences the world hey inhabit, without the brackets of prior assumptions and understandings, it is well-situated to examine the essence of the self as it exists, rather than within the constraints of defining where that meaning comes from. This perspective retains its close links with its philosophical roots, and is therefore less bound by the attempts of scientific methodology to reduce definitions down to measurable parts. In phenomenology, a person does not need to be separated from the parts of their in whatever shape it takes in that particular moment. This is best understood through the core concept of lifework, wherein each person is seen as being inseparable from the setting of that persons life and their experience within that setting. This emphasis on a persons experiences, shared with others found in their situated settings, helps phenomenology to go beyond the individual-society dualism concept and instead formulate an idea of self as a fully in-the-moment combination of meaning. Concluding thoughts Both phenomenological and social psychoanalytical perspectives do much to move away from the individual-society dualism, though their methods in doing so are markedly different. Both methods look to go beyond sim ply what the person says is heir idea of self-?social psychoanalysis by looking for the hidden emotional meaning and connection of the words and phenomenology by looking below the surface for the meaning behind the experience. Both perspectives-?perhaps most importantly-? allow for an understanding of the self that is dynamically changing and developing as the individual has experiences and formulates meaning out of those experiences. This is the greatest combination of individual and society, where a person is both their existence in society, but also how they formulate the meaning of that existence.

king s speech essay

king s speech essay king s speech essay Xiao Yu The King’s Speech Writing 2 Professor Cummings Responsibilities of a king are numerous, but above all, a king is there to protect and speak for the people. Although the power a king has is limited in modern time, the king is still the face of the nation and represent the people. The king must address the nation during important events such as the entering of a war. In â€Å"The King’s Speech†, Prince Albert, Duke of York, is faced with speech difficulties that prevent him from making a suitable, public figure. Prince Albert, also known as Bertie, visited many speech therapists but had seen little result in improving his â€Å"mechanical difficulties† (King’s Speech). Elizabeth, the supportive wife, played by Helena Bonham Carter, sought out an unorthodox speech therapist, Lionel Logue. Lionel, played by Geoffrey Rush, understood the circumstances with treating royalty, but knew it was necessary to step outside the standard edict in order to help Prince Albert conquer his stamme r. The opening scene start with Bertie’s first broadcast at the closing season of the Empire Exhibition. With his severe case of stammer, Albert struggles to make only a few orders during his speech; the scene makes it evident to the audience that the Duke of York was incapable of public speaking, none the less make important announcements. Being the caring, worried wife, Elizabeth seeks the aid of Mr. Lionel Logue. After several sessions, Lionel realized that he must be seen as a friend in the king’s eyes in order for progress to take place. During sessions, the king must see himself as an equal to Lionel; simple tactics such as identifying each other on a personal name basis were used to achieve improvement. Through hard work and a strong friendship, the therapist explored the depth of Albert’s problem and guided the king toward conquering his speech impediment. By the closing scene of the movie, King George VI was ready to define the nation’s stan ce on Germany and the war. As the scene begins with Bertie and Lionel in the broadcasting room, it seems rather small and calming. After Lionel opens the windows for circulation, the viewers can see that there was a customized podium for Bertie; all dà ©cor was to provide the king with comfort. With only twenty seconds until broadcasting, Lionel gives one last breath of confidence to Bertie; â€Å"Forget about everything else and just say it to me. Say it to me, as a friend† (King’s Speech). Before Bertie begins his speech, the camera is directed toward the script in his quivering hands. The pages were marked specifically and tactfully to provide Bertie with notes on where to pause and when to emphasize. Slowly the blinking light switches off and Bertie stares nervously into the microphone; his hands are shaking, throat is swelling, and neck is constricting. People internationally were tuned in, listening closely with growing apprehension to the silence. Lione l calmly looks at Bertie and tells him to breath. Using Lionel’s contagious confidence, Bertie exhaled, remembering the techniques he had practiced, and the king was able to begin. King George VI started slowly and with minimal confidence in his voice, grasping the speech in his hands, but soon after addressing his people both domestic and overseas, his performance improved. With simple pauses between every few words, as planned in his notes, not only does the king develop a slow consistent rhythm, but also creates a suspenseful message for the world-wide audience. As the speech progressed, King George VI spoke more confidently and captured the attention of his audience. During this speech, the movie displayed many side scenes of different groups of people attentively listening to the radio, taking in every word. Even though the king started the speech with shaky hands and a rather nervous

Andrew Carnegie Essays - Andrew Carnegie, The Gospel Of Wealth

Andrew Carnegie A man of Scotland, a distinguished citizen of the United States, and a philanthropist devoted to the betterment of the world around him, Andrew Carnegie became famous at the turn of the twentieth century and became a real life rags to riches story. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, on November 25, 1835, Andrew Carnegie entered the world in poverty. The son of a hand weaver, Carnegie received his only formal education during the short time between his birth and his move to the United States. When steam machinery for weaving came into use, Carnegie?s father sold his looms and household goods, sailing to America with his wife and two sons. At this time, Andrew was twelve, and his brother, Thomas, was five. Arriving into New York on August 14, 1848, aboard the Wiscasset from Glasgow, the Carnegies wasted little time settling in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where relatives already existed and were there to provide help. Allegheny City provided Carnegie?s first job, as a bobbin boy in a cotton factory, working for $1.20 a week. His father also worked there while his mother bound shoes at home, making a miniscule amount of money. Although the Carnegies lacked in money, they abounded in ideals and training for the ir children. At age 15, Carnegie became a telegraph messenger boy in Pittsburgh. He learned to send and decipher telegraphic messages and became a telegraph operator at the age of 17. Carnegie?s next job was as a railroad clerk, working for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked his way up the ladder, through his dedication and honest desire to succeed, to become train dispatcher and then division manager. At this time, young Carnegie, age 24, had already made some small investments that laid the foundations of his what would be tremendous fortune. One of these investments was the purchase of stock in the Woodruff Sleeping Car Company. In 1864, Carnegie entered the iron business, but did not begin to make steel until years later. In 1873, he built the Edgar Thomson works in Braddock, Pennsylvania, to make Bessemer steel. He established many other steel plants, and in 1892, he merged all of his interests into the Carnegie Steel Company. This act from Carnegie is fitting with one of his most famous quotations, ?Put all of your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket.? This firm became one of the greatest industrial enterprises in America. Carnegie later sold it to J.P. Morgan?s United States Steel Corporation in 1901 for $400 million, which would be a little over $4 billion today! After retiring, Carnegie?s fortune was estimated to be as large as half a billion dollars. From that time on, with the philosophy that the rich have a moral obligation to give away their money, he devoted himself to philanthropy. Although ironic, this man of great fortune strongly believed in the merits of poverty for the development of character and work ethic, and determined that wealthy men should not leave their fortunes to their children, but should give it away, claiming ?The man who dies thus rich, dies disgraced.? The picture of community service, Carnegie is quoted as saying, ?Pittsburgh entered the core of my heart when I was a boy, and cannot be torn out. I can never be one hair?s breadth less loyal to her, or less anxious to help her in any way, than I have been since I could help anything. My treasure is still with you, and how best to serve Pittsburgh is the question which occurs to me almost every day of my life." Colonel James Anderson, who Carnegie believes to be his childhood benefactor, established a public library in his hometown of Allegheny City. This library was the first opportunity for Carnegie to take advantage of free information, and he developed a vast interest for knowledge, checking out at least one book a week, and developing himself as a young boy. With Colonel Anderson?s generous contribution to his society molding Carnegie?s childhood, and his beliefs on how large fortunes can be used for the betterment of society, it becomes obvious that Carnegie would focus particularly on promoting education, establishing 2,811 free libraries in all. Of these, 1,946 were located in
